Today is National Flag Day. We celebrate each June 14 to honor the 1777 date when the Second Continental Congress adopted America's familiar stars and stripes as the national flag. My father taught me to put my hand over my heart when it waved during our National Anthem. I served almost 24 yrs in the Marine Corps alongside many other Patriot Americans protecting all this flag stands for. I escorted home the remains of three Marines killed in combat for the country this flag represents.
